A human recruit becomes the viewer's point of entry into an established intergalactic organisation. The film introduces the responsibilities of a Green Lantern through a new member facing a crisis, offering a separate origin from the animated versions of Hal Jordan's story.

Green Lantern is title 10 of 24 in our Live-action Elseworlds viewing sequence. The 2011 Green Lantern gives Hal Jordan a separate live-action origin and Corps setting. The DCU Lanterns series and animated Lantern stories use other interpretations. This film is therefore a standalone viewing choice, not the compulsory first instalment of every later screen story featuring a Green Lantern.
