The tide is turning.
Black Manta seeks revenge on Aquaman for his father's death. Wielding the Black Trident's power, he becomes a formidable foe. To defend Atlantis, Arthur (Aquaman) forges an alliance with his imprisoned brother. They must protect the kingdom.
Why it matters in DC
Arthur's alliance with his imprisoned brother carries an earlier family conflict into the defence of Atlantis. Black Manta's revenge also gives the sequel a continuing personal threat, making the first Aquaman the clearest foundation for understanding these relationships.

Aquaman is the direct preparation for this sequel, establishing Arthur's family, Atlantis and the conflict with Black Manta. The Lost Kingdom carries those relationships forward within the DCEU collection. Other team films offer wider context, but the two Aquaman films form the most focused viewing path for this particular story.
